The Song Remembers When...

So I went to yet another concert. Last night it was Idina Menzel with the Utah Symphony. And wow, what a show! Music is so powerful to me, and this performance was nothing short of soul stirring. You may know Idina from her Broadway credits as Maureen in 'Rent', or as the original Elpheba in 'Wicked' (I posted a YouTube video of her here in a post back in March). The girl is beyond talented. And to hear her sing with a full symphony backing her up was quite amazing.

But as I sat there on the beautiful mountainside taking in the scene and the sounds of the concert, it came to me how very thankful I was for music. I was filled with a deep gratitude for the ability I have to hear the beautiful voices, instruments, and melodies. I listen to a lot of music throughout most of my day, and the more I thought about it, I would be so lost without it. My iPod with its 13,000+ songs is my constant sidekick. The genres are as varied as you can get, but as most would agree that different moods call for different tunes...(and I've got as many moods as Cybil had personalities, so I've got to have a large song selection). :)  And we all have 'theme songs' that fit our current situation in life, and those too are constantly changing.
As for my current themesong, I'd have to go with this one...

Music is such a powerful thing. It has the ability to to wrap itself around a memory and each time we hear that song, we are almost magically transported back to a place in time where that memory was created while that song was playing. The memory being a good or pleasant one, this magical melodic time warp is a gift. For instance, when I want to return to the fond memories of my childhood, I will play some Tina Turner. Or a song as simple as Twinkle Twinkle takes me instantly to the times I used to spend on my dad's lap looking at the stars. Then when I hear Shaggy or Toby Keith I am instantly taken back to my time away at college in with my delightful roommates and friends Lara, Shley, and DeVille. What music has served as the soundtrack to some of your favorite memories?

Funny isn't it, how just one little three minute song can take you on quite the road trip down memory lane...

I Saw You!

I went to see Clay Walker tonight. Boy was he good...sounding and looking! After the concert, I got to meet him. Nice guy. Here is a picture taken with my phone (oopsy I had shut off the auto flash, which is reason to why it is so dark) because I had forgotten to charge the battery to my actual camera (note to self...don't leave home without a functioning camera...you never know who or what you may see).

So here he is saying, "Hey, I saw you guys! I saw you down there!" Luckily my mom refrained from saying, "Hey, we saw you too!" Glad her 'don't say that valve' was working that night...

Good times, good night...
